Description

When the work you do every single day has a crucial impact on the lives of others, every effort, every detail, and every second matters. This shared culture of happiness, passion, and dedication pulses through Cedars-Sinai, and it's just one of the many reasons why we rank as one of the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Principal Investigators, Fayyaz Sutterwala, MD, PhD and Suzanne Cassel, MD are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the team!

The Sutterwala and Cassel laboratory is seeking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to study NLR biology in innate and adaptive immune responses and also non-immunological roles such as senescence and tissue repair. Research projects include characterization of novel phenotypes in genetically modified animals and determining the mechanisms that create the in vivo findings. The focus of studies in the Sutterwala and Cassel Lab is a family of cytosolic molecules called nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeat containing receptors (NLRs) that are involved in the regulation of innate immune responses and cell death pathways. To learn more, please visit the Sutterwala and Cassel Research Lab | Cedars-Sinai.

Some examples of ongoing research projects include:

1) Evaluating the contribution of mitophagy and mitochondrial haplogroups in innate immune signaling (Elliott et al. J Immunol 2018; Iyer et al. Immunity 2013).

2) Defining the role of macrophage NLRC4 in controlling anti-tumor CD4 and CD8 T cell responses (Janowski et al. J Clin Invest 2016).

3) Evaluation of NLR function in cellular senescence in a model of acute lung injury.

4) Determining the mechanism of NLRP12-mediated recruitment of neutrophils to inflammatory sites (Ulland et al. Nat Commun 2016).

As a Postdoctoral Scientist, you will be working independently, but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Research Fellow will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols, analyze and interpret data, and assist in preparation of grant proposals.
